All right boys and girls. Time to start thinking West Virginia and the weekend of July 1st. I have reserved camping for the weekend at Burnwood area of the New River Gorge which is one of the group camping sites maintained by the National Park Service. We will have this whole place to ourselves, sweet. This is on the canyon rim just outside of Fayetteville and is only minutes away from Fayette Station.

As far as the river, well we probably will be on the New. With significant rain there could be other options but the New is as guaranteed as we can get with out a dam release. The Gorge (lower) section is generally considered a class III/IV run. At lower summer flows it is probably closer to being III+ or maybe IV-. It is a gorgeous river and view. For a little less excitement the Upper New is a good class II run that includes one nice class III rapid towards the end.

I will probably be on the gorge. Last year everyone ran the upper section and the gorge paddlers continued on downstream, which made for a long and tiring day. I would be appreciative if anyone wants to volunteer to lead a group on the Upper section. Saturday only or both days would work. Sometimes people just like to run Fayette Station a bunch on Sunday and head on back home anyway.

Back to camping. This is a group site and is $50 per night. I will inquire to see if the club will be willing to pick this up to avoid me having to foot the bill and trying to collect from you drunkards after we get off the river. So if you think you are possibly maybe sorta interested PLEASE RESPOND here or by email and let me know so I can get a estimate of who will be coming. But I wont beat you up if you bail so just let me know if you are interested. This place has a pavilion so Saturday evening group dinner is a possibility if everyone is interested. Oh, since you probably have Monday and Tuesday off work (you know, Independence Day) let me know if you want to extend this trip a bit longer than the weekend.
